Terry Pratchett - Snuff (Discworld #39)

The final of the Guards subseries of the Discworld sees Vimes being encouraged to take a well-deserved holiday, despite him not wanting to. And so he finds himself off in the country at the Ramkin estate, in land owned by him thanks to his upward mobility. And finding himself there, he also manages to find himself some crime to investigate, of course. It's a big crime too... slavery. Although that is complicated by the status of the enslaved as being assumed to be somewhat less than people. Over the space of the book, it is revealed first to some and then to all, that goblins are people too.

I, of course, enjoyed it.
